This approach feels awkward. A Wi-Fi enabled option like the G3/4 Instant would be more convenient.

It would. You’re already aware of how clunky it is, and placing the powerline adapter under the UPS isn’t ideal—both ends need to share the same unit for any real chance of functioning during outages. Wiring cables without planning is a real hassle. But the long-term benefits in comfort and scalability are worth it.

Consider setting up Ethernet directly or opt for wireless options, with power coming from a nearby injector.
