Linking 2.5GbE and 10GbE connections
Consider a used smart switch if needed, but an 8-port 10 GbE device should handle 1GbE and 2.5GbE connections without issues.
Actually, 2.5Gbit is fairly recent. Earlier 10Gbit devices couldn't handle 2.5Gbit or 5Gbit because those speeds weren't available at the time.
Several models were built to use less power than 10G, which explains why 2.5Gbit can operate without fans. Most of the switches I own are fairly quiet, though the Netgear MS510TXUP is noticeably louder than the MS510TXPP but stays much cooler thanks to three times more fans. I don’t hear the MS510TXPP clearly from a few meters away in a quiet space—it handles all my media gear and consoles smoothly.
