I can link to the device via Ethernet but cannot perform any actions like firmware updates or data communication. I’m looking for the best approach. The manual suggests using a crossed cable patch or connecting to a network switch with the PC linked. I tried the latter, but the IP address isn’t valid, which is the same issue I faced when using direct connection.

The switch isn't able to move data across separate network segments. For that, you'll need a router. I'm still trying to understand your intention—are you looking to link a device directly to a computer using an Ethernet cable? Or do you have another specific objective in mind?

Is there a reason to use a router here? It seems unclear why it wouldn’t work—could be related to the switch type or configuration. You mentioned a switch, but it’s not functioning as expected. What is the network setup? All devices need to share the same subnet without a router.

To link just for updates, you don’t have to configure routing—simply connect directly. This avoids the need for Windows setup. Use the Network and Sharing Center, then adjust adapter settings, change the IP address to 10.0.9.10 (not its official value), set the mask to 255.0.0.0, and assign the gateway 10.0.9.1.
