Line speed for Gaming?
In the darkest part of South Africa, fibre internet is still unfamiliar to many. When our area went live, I quickly took advantage of the first available option. I began with a 25/25 connection and later upgraded to a 50/50 plan. I’ve been using it for some time now. Recently, I noticed that paying an additional 40 Rand (around $3 USD) each month would give me 100/10 speeds. I wondered if that was the best choice. My household has three adults and one child. We mostly watch streaming content from a single PC in the lounge, usually in 1080p resolution. The child mainly uses YouTube at 480p almost all evenings, while I play games on my PC from upstairs—though I don’t stream myself, but I sometimes share my screen on Discord because I’m not great at it. Is the 100/10 still suitable for gaming alongside everything else, or did the 50/50 plan work better for our needs?
The 100/10 works better. Based on your household tasks, there’s very little uploading happening, and occasionally sharing your screen in Discord 10 is fine.
