I purchased a new Samsung 990 Pro and was attempting the installation. It was my first PC and I wasn't familiar with the M.2 port on my motherboard, so I connected it using the same cables as my two HDDs. When I powered it up, it didn’t recognize the SSD. After turning it off while the PC was running, it shut down completely. Later I located the M.2 slot but the red VGA indicator stayed lit and my monitors showed black. I tried disconnecting the GPU and using a different slot, but when the PC was off I unplugged the PSU, thinking it was an HDD issue. Now I’m stuck and need the system up and running for work tomorrow. Intel® Core™ 12th Gen i3-12100F, GFORCE GT 710, EVGA 550W

Linking the NVME to the SATA power destroyed the NVME and could also harm the PSU. Take that storage device off the board and try again.

Oh no! That sounds like a mistake—inserting an M.2 SSD into a SATA power connector could harm both components.

You should consider purchasing a replacement power supply unit if you can't resolve the issue by tomorrow morning.

The GT 710 seems unlikely to support UEFI due to its reliance on a 2010 architecture. Since POST LEDs stop at VGA, it's probable that newer systems would avoid CSM for compatibility reasons. The presence of an Intel F variant chip without built-in graphics further limits troubleshooting options, making it less likely to run UEFI smoothly.
