Life of Elementary OS on battery power
Life of Elementary OS on battery power
Hi, I recently set up elementary OS on my HP Pavillion after using a PC for Linux. The battery performance was good, lasting about 5 to 6 hours, but on Linux it drops to around 2 hours. I've tried several battery-saving apps like TLP and Slimbook, but nothing worked. Anyone have a solution or tips? Thanks!
There isn’t a clear answer, but it might be related to how your Linux system handles sleep modes. Many laptops use different sleep levels to save power, and if your distribution isn’t optimized for them, it can drain the battery faster. You may be able to adjust settings so your system recognizes these features. It could depend on your laptop’s motherboard and CPU model, so checking compatible distros might help.
I haven’t had a positive experience with Ubuntu, especially considering battery performance. On Manjaro with my Thinkpad, I’m getting around 12+ hours on a 72Wh battery—roughly comparable to what you’d expect from Windows. I recommend trying Manjaro and see how it works for you. You might also adjust the TLP settings if you haven’t already.
laptop-mode-tools helps set up your system to turn on or off specific features and adjust certain default settings to help conserve battery power. I’m not very experienced with Ubuntu, but this Arch Wiki guide might be helpful. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop_Mode_Tools I’m aware both options exist in the AUR for Arch-based distributions like Manjaro, and the information here should work for Manjaro as well.
Thanks for the update. I haven't used Manjaro yet. I've already adjusted the TLP settings, but it didn't help.
