I don’t understand what to do. For installing programs, I think a 32-bit version is best. I usually get the Reading package lists. Building the dependency tree and reading state info is complete. E: The package libxext6:i386 needs reinstalling, but I can’t find an archive. I’m sure I installed architecture i368—what should I do? (Ubuntu desktop 17.10)

It appears available in Ubuntu 16 and later. Checking with "apt-cache policy libxext6:i386" will show details. You can also download it directly from the archive link provided, though you may need to run "sudo apt install -f" to fix missing dependencies.
