The Xeon L520 isn't available, and you won't be able to run virtual machines on an LGA 775/771 processor.

Used LGA 1366 servers from Dell or HP tend to be affordable, but finding a board with more than six cores is challenging. Better options than 771/775 are available.

I was thinking of something like a tower server, not a regular consumer setup, and definitely not a rack-mounted one.
