I'm a bit confused about the details you shared. If you're unsure, feel free to clarify. I recently purchased a new i9 12900K at a discounted price, and I'm considering an MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 motherboard. I double-checked compatibility for RAM and a suitable power supply, but it wasn't until after the purchase that I discovered information about the LGA 1700 socket and its retention issues, which can cause bending or damage to the IHS. I'm not installing anything yet, but I'm curious about ways to prevent warping. Some people recommend washer mods, but opinions vary—some say they work well, others claim only minor movement. Since my board hasn't been used, I'm just trying to keep it looking normal. Could I get an aftermarket reinforced backplate? I'm not sure what might be causing the problem, and I'd appreciate any advice from the community. Check Reddit for more insights. Thanks!

Ensure your cooler includes an LGA 1700 bracket and proceed confidently.

If things go well, I’d like to stay on this mobile/cpu setup until around 2030. I understand it sounds like a long shot, but I believe it has the power to last that duration. As I mentioned earlier, my main concern is long-term wear and tear. Using the LGA 1700 bracket seems like a solid choice for that.

Intel invests heavily in research and development of the socket, conducting extensive long-term testing to guarantee CPUs remain stable during installation and operation over many years. I don't have concerns about it. The reason lies in the retention system that secures the CPU's center, and the chip's elongated shape causing it to flex slightly when placed in the socket.

This was what I believed, though it wasn't certain.

The issue arises during setup with older socket mounting systems that rely on a rigid attachment (no springs or excessive force). Opt for a cooler built for the current socket model. For older coolers, ensure they aren't overly tightened. Jay investigated and found it requires just a slight adjustment—about 1mm extra. When using a hard mount, he tightened the screws by turning them fully once per installation, achieving that extra 1mm. No bending was observed, and the 240 rating maintained performance under full load at 200W.

I've come across some articles on the topic that led me to this question, since I had conflicting views scattered everywhere.

Great timing to move to AMD. The 5900x is now around $450, the 5800x3D drops to $450, and the 5700x is launching for $300. This includes support for B350+X370. Also, the MSI B550-A PRO is available for about $129 and can handle everything from the 5900x onward.

I haven't installed it yet, but I broke the seal on the packaging without removing it from the plastic case. Others suggested using LGA 1700 brackets, though I don't have concrete proof. I purchased the 12900K because it was on sale for $499.99, and the 5950X for $649.99.
