The top chip for LGA1700 (14900K) surpasses the best AM4 option (5800X3D or 5950X based on needs). Note that most evaluations use DDR5 with the 14900K, so it's not a perfect match, but I anticipate the 14900K will win either way. The main rivalry for 14th gen is the Ryzen 7000 series on AM5.
Well AM4 is a dead end, they've moved on to am5, so that is not future prrof. lga1700 can currently use 12,13,14 gen depending on the chipset. 15 gen is rumored to use a new socket, so there is no future in lga1700... The take away? Future prrof doesn't exist. Buy what you need when you need it. Don't base it on "future" upgrades.
Raw performance-wise it's LGA1700. For efficiency, AM4 seems more suitable. You might consider AM5 now unless you locate an affordable motherboard and processor pair.
