LF has a thoroughly documented app needing public IPv4 for operation
I’m setting up a dedicated Steam server and had to switch from my Public IP to a Private one via NAT. After troubleshooting, I realized the ISP changed things and now I can’t forward ports anymore. They suggested I could get a public IP if I have solid documentation proving it’s necessary. I need to locate an app that depends on a public IPv4 address to give me a valid reason.
They're focusing on the broader setup rather than the specific tool, emphasizing self-hosting options like Nextcloud. The notice highlights that certain services won't be affected by the migration process, which suggests a more flexible approach compared to others.
I don't believe I have any IPv6 setup, but that's just a guess. Side note, I also use a VPN which might help. Though I'm unsure about port forwarding in this context. I've configured my router to run the VPN, but it doesn't appear to be working properly. My public IP and WAN IP differ, and only with the WAN IP does the game server show "available" instead of "LAN only." Even though it's listed as available, it remains hidden from outside networks.
they’ll request proof of identity, but I haven’t located any yet—I tried talking to them again and they appeared open to switching my IP address to public. Hopefully that works out!
Occasionally it comes down to finding the right individual. Many of these individuals lack basic understanding. They seem to be attempting to frustrate you into giving up. As mentioned in the press release you referenced, they’re no longer using IPv4 addresses. Until the global community fully adopts IPv6, we’ll keep encountering these problems.
