It's accurate that ITX fits into mATX, which means you can just roll your eyes. There aren't many excellent choices for mATX boards at the hobbyist level.
The MSI B550M Mortar offers superior VRM performance compared to the mATX Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite/Pro. Both boards could overheat when using a high-end 3900X or 3950X, but the Mortar would handle it better.
my top choice is the ASUS TUF B550M Wi-Fi model, a solid all-rounder in the budget range. It offers great RGB customization and includes an M.2 key E for Wi-Fi. The ATX unit has an error code, while the MATX version lacks it. Avoid MSI options—software tools are lacking, but the hardware itself is decent.
They had fine B450 boards, though their B550 models were pretty disappointing except for the VRMs. I was thinking about purchasing a B550 Tomahawk because it seemed like a solid choice at the time, but then I saw a friend's board fail just two weeks after he bought it. I didn’t back out of MSI right away.
The B550 Tomahawk is an excellent board, rivaling some of the best X570 models.
It's missing USB, but I can locate a B550 model with USB capability at a fair price compared to the Tomahawk.
