Hey there, so I just got an SSD and planned to install it this afternoon. I checked a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox6DHlPQI-w) where Linus shows how to keep Windows running in the storage HDD. Is that okay? With Windows 8, can I just put it on the SSD without removing it from the old drive? Also, what if there’s a leftover Windows still active on the storage? Thanks!

The installation process itself shouldn’t interfere with your storage setup. Once Windows boots from the SSD, it will use the drive as intended without issues. Just ensure proper partitioning if needed.

Thanks! It was easier to skip moving everything from the HDD since the windows files worked well.

You can delete just the Windows files from the old drive before installing a fresh copy on the SSD. Use disk management tools to identify and remove the Windows partitions, then reinstall them as needed.

Opt for disconnecting the old storage device. Attach the SSD and perform a fresh installation of the operating system. Ensure the boot order is correctly prioritized. Remove the old HDD by deleting its Program Files directories.
