You simply obtain a key and turn it on, eliminating the need to reinstall it.

It can assist you with upgrading your Windows or, in a last resort, generate a new image of your computer and reinstall the operating system using that image.

You're correct about not needing anything extra, but it's highly advised since it's hard to confirm what was done with the installer. OP suggests simply reinstalling, using the genuine key, and upgrading later when Windows 10 is available.

Having a genuine key would definitely come with a replacement disc. I wouldn’t choose the pirate version because sometimes they add a lot of issues to the system, making it less stable and more prone to bugs.
