Hi, I have an older Samsung digital frame (SPF-87H) lying around. In the past, I really liked it because I could plug it into my PC via USB and use it as a handy secondary screen—perfect for showing things like the task manager or my music playlist. For it to function properly on Windows 7, it needed certain Samsung applications and drivers, especially some USB drivers and possibly Visual C++. The Frame Manager 2.0 installer is still available for download (including older versions and the manual). It seems there were no further updates after version 2.0. Interestingly, the app—or some of its drivers—doesn’t work well in Windows 11. When I tried to install it, the system would crash on reboot and restart after several failures. I attempted to run the installer in compatibility mode for Windows 7, but the same problem occurred. I also tried disabling USB and Visual C++ installation and installing VC++ manually, but the frame didn’t show up as an unknown device and the app still failed to launch. I’m not sure if I should give up and complain about how outdated it is, or if there’s a hidden solution I’m missing. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help. Best, -a-

Start by launching a Win 7 VM, run the installer and check the dependencies. It’s likely it requires outdated components not included in Windows 7—pay close attention to the installer details. Switching to a Win 11 VM can help test without risking your main system.

If its crashing on reboot after installing, I would venture to say it has installed the driver, and the driver itself has an incompatibility. Not super hopeful about finding a solution to that. It's worth asking yourself if all of this is worth the time you have spent or will spend on it. https://www.amazon.com/HMTECH-Raspberry-...B09MFNLRQQ

Is it possible to use this device without a Raspberry Pi? You may need to explore other options since it can't be shipped to your chosen address.

That was merely a demonstration; I’m not familiar with the specific device. It supports Windows, which is typical for monitors of that type. These displays are usually designed to work across various platforms (unlike your photo frame).

It's tough to locate options under $100 in your area.

It might be wise to explore Ali Express and comparable platforms.

I didn’t realize I could repurpose an old MS Surface from 2017 as a wireless secondary display.
