Discussing the current state of AMD and Intel chips, note that older Zen models can't run SAM because of hardware constraints. To access this feature on AMD, you'd need a later generation like Zen 3. Intel's support has shifted to Haswell and beyond, offering more flexibility. While updates for such legacy systems are unlikely, there remains a possibility recent chips could handle it. GPU compatibility is still a key factor here. AMD hasn't announced plans to adapt older GPUs for SAM, and NVIDIA is reportedly evaluating 30-series support but hasn't confirmed older models.
Smart Address Memory lets the CPU read the entire GPU VRAM at once instead of in small pieces. This can boost performance significantly. While missing it isn't a major issue, having it provides extra speed when available.
It's disappointing. MSI no longer sends BIOS updates for my Z370-mobo.
You can indeed turn on a resizable bar on older AMD processors, especially on Linux systems. However, this may cause higher latency and lead to reduced performance compared to when it's disabled in certain situations.
hey, any news on SAM being supported by older gen CPU and GPU as well as b450 chipset? saw bios update for b450 tomahawk max with " Support Re-size BAR function to enhance GPU performance" guessing that is SAM. I'm on Ryzen 5 3600 and rx5700xt, and tbh not looking to upgrade any time soon since prices here are a mess... so just asking to know if I should get my hopes up at all?
