LED stays lit even after assembling a fresh computer system
Hey there, new builder! Just started this project and I think I might have made a mistake. My system has been running for about eight years now, but I kept some old parts like the case, power supply, and hard drives. Today after installing Windows 11, the blue light on the front panel keeps shining. (See photo below) What’s going on? Is it with my PSU or did I mess something up?
Specs: 12400 RTX 3050, MSI B660 PRO, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz, 1TB M.2 Aorus SSD.
Also, I didn’t see this light last night while trying to fix the machine (I accidentally installed Windows on the HDD first). Before it was fully set up, I had to remove the mount plate, tweak the IO Shield because parts weren’t aligning right, and reconnect the GPU. Unlike the previous night, I think the GPU might not fit properly or I didn’t adjust the board correctly.
Two things stand out: 1) The HDMI cable is too tight for the GPU, and 2) I accidentally opened Warzone twice and saw a brief green screen.
I’m really worried about this system and hope you can help me out before it gets worse. Thanks!
P.S.: This isn’t the power-on indicator light—it’s more like the HDD indicator.
P.S2: I noticed a few small blinks while posting this thread.
P.S3: One of the CPU power cables had only an 8-pin plug, so I connected just that one. No extra cables needed.
Verify that the power LED cables aren't making contact with any metal parts, and confirm all front panel connectors are properly connected without damage or incomplete insertion. This is the only plausible explanation for the power LED receiving power incorrectly.
Inspect the front panel connectors on the motherboard and verify the pin configuration in the manual. Ensure they are securely connected. Consult the BIOS settings regarding the power LED. If your PC fails to POST or boot, or if the front panel LED continues to illuminate, you're likely fine. Regarding the HDMI cable, examine the case from behind to see if the GPU port is partially obstructed by the PCIE metal strips. Also, look for any misalignment in the motherboard installation.
Before testing, I followed the manual instructions and tried connecting the front panel connectors. Each time I powered on the PSU, the system would briefly boot up before shutting down when I pressed the power button. Watching that YouTube video helped—someone swapped the connectors and it worked too. Could the chassis screws be causing this issue? It seems they might be sending extra power to the motherboard.
I reinstalled the motherboard, reconnected the front panel connectors (following the online guide – this time it worked properly), but the indicator remains active. I plan to remove the HDDs one at a time since one was consistently bad. I’ll post an update later.
I started looking up the internet before disconnecting my hard drives and noticed that this specific chassis' blue light is almost always active. It’s a DeepCool Tesseract BF, so I wondered if this is really an issue. I’ve only seen it once in the last eight years, which made me concerned about potential problems with my system. The photos below show similar blue light occurrences on other users’ chassis (sorry for the low quality).
