LED lights up and stays active after a restart only.
I can restart my desktop without issues, but if it's a full system reboot or update, the CPU red light activates and the machine halts completely. It keeps fans running and the red light stays on, making it hard to turn it off unless I press the power button. This also occurs during a Windows update where it restarts several times. Changing the BIOS settings to "Exit without saving changes" resolves the problem. The only time the red light appears is during a restart. I've searched online for solutions but haven't found a fix yet. My system runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (ASUS Z87-A, version 18362). I've tried updating the BIOS and replacing the power supply, but removing memory sticks one at a time hasn't helped. Thanks for any advice!
Thank you for your response! I tried changing the CPU again ("reseeding") but it didn’t help. The old i5 works fine when restarted. Still, I’m keeping an eye on the second-hand i7 CPU and checking what BIOS updates are needed so it can support more powerful processors. I haven’t closed this part of the question yet. It seems a functioning CPU should work without issues after a restart.
I located the fix. Choose either version 2005 or 2004 based on your ASUS motherboard model, launch the BIOS flash tool via Windows, direct it to the BIOS CAP file, and let it execute. It should resolve the issue with the 4790K. This update was specifically designed to restore functionality, while later releases don’t address the problem unless you apply this version first.
Hi Everyone, sorry to post this again but I’m facing the same problem... the red solid LED lights up only after restarting from Windows or pressing the reset button in my case. Here’s my setup: Specs – CPU i7-12700 (non K), cooler Fuma 2 Rev b, motherboard MSI B660 Tomahawk DDR4 WIFI, GPU Strix RTX 3080, 10GB RAM Corsair DDR4 3200 LPX (16x2), included in MSI compatibility list. Storage WD SN850 2TB, PSU Corsair RM850, case Torrent Compact Bios version 7D41v27, OS Windows 11. What I’ve tried: removed GPU, swapped SSD and RAM, re-plugged CPU power (both motherboard and PSU), reseated CPU and coolers, re-installed Windows (clean), restored CMOS, flashed latest BIOS, reset XMP, ran MemTest86 – all passed. Any other advice would be appreciated... Given this, I’m worried about a hardware issue with my motherboard, CPU, or PSU. To clarify, I’ve uploaded a video for quick reference.
Thank you for your prompt response. I attempted the adjustment (CPU Advanced Settings > Disable Intel C-states), but the problem remains unchanged. The red LED lights up each time I exit BIOS and during a reset. Thank you for your assistance and any further ideas you might have.
