I just assembled my PC and attempted to power it on. There was no display on the monitor. I saw a green LED next to the Boot button, assuming it meant the system had started. Later I realized the light indicated a boot failure on the motherboard. I’ve been looking for a fix but most POST errors point to RAM issues rather than boot problems. I tried the CMOS method—powering down and touching metal on the pins—but it didn’t work, maybe I did it incorrectly.
I'm using the following hardware. First, I'd review the motherboard manual to confirm the RAM slots are correct. If you have two sticks, test booting with just one. Also, verify all cables are properly connected. Note: The green LED indicates power supply to the motherboard.
I experienced the same problem as you did with the green-yellow indicator, but no output appeared on the screen. The BIOS was able to show up on the monitor via the GPU, not the motherboard. To be honest, this is my first build, so it might not apply to you—it's worth a try. My approach was to send the display through the GPU instead of the HDMI, which worked and the BIOS displayed correctly. The green-yellow light stayed on. I suspect it’s just indicating that no operating system is installed. PS: when you insert the GPU into the white light, it shouldn’t illuminate if it’s supposed to. Adjust the slot until the light disappears.
Thank you, Bryophy. I encountered a brief beep that the manual indicated was a disabled VGA quick boot setting. Before this, I had reset the CMOS and RTC RAM. After that, there was no video output through the HDMI port on my GPU, which I had been using for about an hour prior. However, when I connected a DisplayPort cable to both the GPU and monitor, the video feed appeared—something I hadn’t seen when using HDMI. This supports your hypothesis. Bryophy, THANK YOU SO MUCH. It's been almost 1.5 years since your post but after hours of searching I finally stumbled upon your suggestion. This solved my Green light boot issue. In fact, there was no issue per se with my boot drive, it was just unformatted and had no OS, but the blank screen had me wondering what was going on and what this "BOOT" error code was. In the end, I'm such a noob after using Intel CPUs my entire life with their integrated graphics -- when I switched to AMD I didn't realize my motherboard hdmi would not work. Plugging it into my GPU HDMI port revealed that my computer was posting and able to access BIOS this entire time and waiting for further instructions. I found a fix using the display port on my graphics card. It turned out I wasn't dealing with a post problem after all.
Patience, it can sometimes take a while if it's green today.
