Look here's the thing; He's going to have an easier time with a Mac. He's not going to render videos as quick and he will never get the raw performance that a $10,000 PC will give him, but on the other hand he's likely to never have a problem. Not a single one. To a lot of people this is a big deal, and I will agree with them on this, especially when you're in a creative flow. If you've got the ball rolling and something screws up your mind is off the project and on to cursing at how f***ing useless your equipment is. One crash or error is all it takes to wish you'd bought something else. On top of that the Adobe suite was taylor made for the Mac, it is its native platform and it is absolutely the platform on which it runs the best, beast hardware or not (personal experience). (sidenote: He should be using Premiere Pro, not Final Cut)
It would be easier; though not dramatically so. Unless you provide evidence to contradict that. In the end, it's just a finely tuned Unix version, it can't achieve wonders. I've heard from someone who handles Mac repairs—believe me, there are challenges involved.
I've got many friends using Macs of various sizes and models, and we haven't faced major issues. I've had my screen replaced due to dead pixels, and they were happy to help. Of course, like anything, things aren't perfect—some Macs malfunction and some people accidentally spill coffee on their keyboards. Still, my overall experience has been mostly positive. My MacBook has been reliable whether I'm traveling or at home.
Well, as your friend said, "which makes PC pricing irrelevant." So the fact that a Prius is cheaper doesn't matter since it's not important compared to something like a Ferrari, which is incredibly expensive. In his view, what really counts is how efficient the Prius is, and because of that efficiency it offers the best value, even though it's still quite slow compared to a less efficient Ferrari.
This highlights how important it is to upgrade from the original graphics driver to the newest version, as a console and a PC with the same specifications often perform better on the console. The game was designed specifically for the console's hardware, not the PC, which explains the performance gap. Similarly with Macs, software is built for certain components and understands how to interact with them effectively, offering significant advantages. The trade-off is limited customization options. It's clear that software tailored for specific hardware consistently delivers better results. On the other hand, Apple builds computers at a higher cost.
Linus shared a video about graphics driver updates over time. The most noticeable change came with a recently released version that old drivers couldn't handle, while the overall improvement stayed around 16% across five years. It wouldn't be considered a major upgrade. Games perform slightly better on PCs than consoles with the same hardware, though that difference is minimal. Even with more restricted Mac setups compared to Windows PCs, many factors still need consideration; updates focus on compatibility rather than rewriting the system. The Mac Pro runs identically to the MacBook Air in terms of operating system and software.
