I recently enhanced my graphics card and power supply. After that, multiple games—Civ4, Deus Ex HR, Borderlands 2—will cause the screen to disconnect when launching. It feels like I cut the HDMI cable or the screen saver activated. Newer titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V run smoothly without issues. Connecting to my LG TV that supports Freesync and 120 Hz via HDMI 2.1 Any suggestions would be helpful! My rig includes an Asus ROG Strix 650E-F (smbios 3.5), R9 7900X at stock speed, 32 Gigabit Skill Flare X 5 @ 6000 MHz, and an XTX Merc 310 7900 XTX (switched off non-OC mode) along with a Corsair RM1000x power supply. Windows 10 Pro version 22H2 is installed.

It seems the screen isn't picking up the game output properly—possibly due to resolution, refresh rate, or sync issues. Likely the sync method is the problem. Try using a TV setup to disable free sync, if successful, then enable it and adjust settings in your AMD Radeon driver, such as "enhanced sync" and "AMD Freesync" under per-game profiles.

Additionally, verify that certain games require DirectX 9 or other installations like .net that you must locate manually. This could point to a software or game compatibility issue rather than a hardware problem. Many of the titles you're encountering are older releases that might need optimization for modern operating systems. For example, Dragon Age: Origins is experiencing crashes every 20 minutes; applying the Large Address Aware patch resolved the issue.

I disabled Freesync and "Instant game response" and managed to capture an image for Civ IV that I couldn't get before. It shuts down when I press alt/tab to switch to a Windows display, though it's still better than before. Yesterday I tested various resolutions and noticed some caused the screen to disconnect, so I believe you're likely past the target settings. I'll experiment with the Radeon and adjust in-game settings to hopefully fix this. Thanks!

You're experiencing issues with missing support files during a fresh Windows installation. It sounds like you're encountering some compatibility or setup challenges. If you need help resolving this, let me know!

I really enjoy the Mass Effect remaster since it saved me a lot of time getting the first title to launch. GOG.com also does a better job with older titles, sometimes I download files or check their methods to adapt them for new systems. Right now I’m playing the original Fable and Myst 3, so there’s no need to worry about nostalgia for these classics.

Unaware there existed a remake of Mass Effect. Very enthusiastic about that series (actually just three games).
