I downloaded the app after installing Mac OS High Sierra but formatted my drive. When I copied it to a USB drive, it didn’t open properly—it showed an error about possible damage. Now I’m unsure how to use it beyond reinstalling. It’s a 6GB drive.

Are you checking the security options? If not, the USB device may not be saved in exfat or hfs format.

Reinstall the file right away. A 6GB size is quite small. It’s possible to let it operate during the night, though I question your internet speed.
