I purchased a B660-A D4 from ASUS and a 13600k. I need to update the BIOS on the board using the 13th generation chip. Since I don’t have a 12th generation CPU, I’m using the board because it supports BIOS flashback. This allows me to use a USB stick with the BIOS without needing the older CPU. However, the board requires an Intel ME update before the flashback. Should I install the ME update on my current computer first, or do I need to get a 12th generation chip?

What's Intel ME ?? With no CPU you can't even post to BIOS so flashback can't require anything ???

Intel ME serves as a control platform for Intel devices. More details will be provided by Google. As mentioned, I own a 13600k processor, but the latest BIOS is suggested for installation after Intel ME. The motherboard works fine, yet the software must be run via Windows. I’m stuck because I can’t boot until the BIOS is flashed.

Begin with the BIOS upgrade, otherwise nothing will function properly

You need to install ME because it's part of the latest BIOS update, and using BIOS 1620 or later ensures compatibility with your CPU.

Just below that note, it mentions installing the ME update tool beforehand... I wasn't sure if this covered the latest release or was just for users who already had their system set up.

Here are some alternative phrasings:

- Reframing the statement for clarity.
- Alternative wording to convey the same idea.
- Simplified version of the original text.

I checked the situation and found a similar case. For your setup, you likely won’t need a 12th gen CPU to update the BIOS. The motherboard you have is from August 2022, which aligns with the release of the 13th gen update. Since your BIOS is 1603, it should support the update. Just confirm the RAM specs before proceeding.

Your motherboard isn't compatible with BIOS flashback. For the 13th generation, you must update the BIOS, which can only be done using a 12th generation CPU.
