Latest 16th Generation Intel processors
Heard on the office chat that Intel is really pushing forward with a 16th-gen chip soon, maybe even before fall. Think 15th gen will be the quickest to fade from their lineup.
I just wish they won’t be rolling out an Arrow Lake update, since some whispers are spreading about it. We didn’t trust them, but Intel did attempt to bring this generation into the mainstream even though it didn’t work out. We’re counting on Panther Lake and Nova Lake arriving soon. How much longer do they intend to run the 18A process in their manufacturing plants?
Looking ahead to the next generation, from all available reports it seems not yet prepared for release. At most we're seeing an update. So... minimal progress? Intel claims Next Gen will arrive next year, meaning unless you have exclusive insider info, be cautious. The hype is high, but the reality might be much smaller.
11th and 12th generation were comparable. The 11th generation debuted in March 2021, and the 12th followed in October 2021.
I believe they’re unlikely to act quickly given the recent setbacks. Consumer products now represent only a minor portion of their earnings; most revenue comes from data centers and servers. Their moves appear speculative, as if they’re hastily pushing something despite their typical cautious approach with yearly updates. They should focus on another redesign to stay competitive in gaming, especially since the 9800x3D has dominated the market. There’s limited room for further node improvements—just a few more tweaks at most.
Dual 3D v-cache CCD seems dubiously useful, but we'll have to see. I wouldn't doubt if they do a small batch of '9990x3D' or '9950XT3D' or whatever they name the bloody thing with dual 3D v-cache given the competition. It'll probably end up $800 though and only marginally better in some specific productivity applications, since gaming generally sticks to one CCD as it is.
