I’ve shared something similar before, but this appears to be different from what I thought. Recently, I got a new 850W power supply because my PC wouldn’t boot after a GPU upgrade. When I used the old 500W unit, it worked fine, so I assumed the PSU was faulty. Now I’m getting this new one, but it’s still having the same problem—no display and the motherboard’s VGA light is on. I can’t rely on the 500W since it doesn’t provide enough power for my system. This issue seems GPU-related, though I’m puzzled as to why it worked with the lower wattage instead of the higher ones.

I also made sure to swap out all the cables.

The system runs a Corsair RX 6950 X GPU, paired with a Ryzen 5 3600 processor in an MSI B450-A Pro Max. The motherboard supports 32GB of DDR4 3600MHz RAM. In the photo, the power supply is positioned outside the case to avoid extra cable work.

I tried, but my earlier PSU was also Corsair RXM series, so it wouldn't have made a difference

Use the first eight pins on those cables featuring 2.. always. Make sure you're working with the correct cables, as variations can affect the PSU side pin configuration. If the cables come from different places, it's sufficient. Begin by connecting the CPU 24-pin and PCIe cables first.

I'm confused about your message. It seems you're asking whether the PC boots with the new GPU and if it works without a 500W power supply, or if it doesn't boot at all with higher wattage supplies. Clarify your question for better understanding.

the pc starts using the 500w power unit, but it doesn’t work properly since the required power isn’t sufficient for your setup. neither of your corsair options (rm1000x, rm850x) can handle this load.

Robchil referenced something earlier, but you're definitely sticking to the cables provided with the new PSU. Only those labeled as PCIe and connected via the matching ports on the PSU should be used. You can't switch to other PSUs or use cables with different pin configurations. If the PC starts up using an older power supply, wiring problems likely cause the issue.

I installed all the latest cables and followed the instructions carefully. The issue has persisted for about a week, and I’ve tried every fix available. Nothing appears unusual on any forums or support guides. Even if I have to return the GPU, I’d like to understand what’s behind this problem.
