I improved my Acer Aspire A515-46-R14K by adding 8GB RAM to an empty slot, but it would crash within two minutes. After reinstalling Windows 11 while keeping the existing files, crashes took 3-5 minutes instead of 2. When I tried to boot into W11, I saw a hyperdrive error (possibly related to the boot drive). I’m wondering if I should reinstall from a USB drive—would that work better? I’d prefer Windows 10 since I don’t like Windows 11. Should I skip the extra RAM and just use the older version? There are other issues too, like a flashing white screen. The laptop still works for charging, backlighting, trackpad, fingerprint sensor, etc. It’s mainly my personal device for streaming while relaxing, not for work. It wouldn’t be worth using if it can’t run smoothly for about 15 minutes during my Curb episodes. Any tips would be greatly appreciated—I’d rather fix it myself than spend half the cost at a repair shop.

I'd remove the RAM first since the slot might be faulty or the stick could be damaged. I bought replacement RAM previously that had a broken stick.

It should have mentioned the laptop was refurbished via Acer's own eBay account. https://www.pny.com/performance-ddr4-240...ook-memory This model claims to be from Amazon but only has one unit available. I’ll need to borrow screwdrivers, which means updates might be delayed. In the meantime, I’m trying to mimic error codes and believe it’s likely a faulty OS installation.

Run the test first, or try on a Linux distribution and execute memtest. Probably it's not the RAM but the operating system.
