ast night i finished watching some show and turned off my laptop and went to bed. This morning i woke up to notice there was no sound coming from my laptop. And when the games started, they would freeze frame by frame during the intro, take about 10 minutes to load into a menu, and then still lagged, taking around 3 seconds to switch between menu options.

I’m pretty sure it’s not because of overheating, especially since the room is cold and the temperature never goes above 15c. I also monitor my temperatures with MSI afterburner, which stay around 65c during gameplay and drop to about 50c when browsing.

Using headphones didn’t help either.

I tried several things:
- Checked the volume settings
- Used the Windows audio troubleshooter
- Right-clicked the sound icon and selected “Sounds,” where my speaker/headphone icon showed a green check mark
- Rolled back the last Windows update
- Checked Device Manager, tried updating drivers, but found no AMD High Definition Audio Device drivers online
- Examined the BIOS for advanced audio settings, but they were disabled by the manufacturer (tried fn + tab three times)
- Ran sfc /scannow, which reported corrupt files but couldn’t fix them; online repair instructions were in the CBS folder
- Adjusted boot settings and chose a full boot
- Entered safe mode to test, and the speaker icon displayed a red cross with “nothing plugged in”

My PC details:
HP Laptop
AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Vega 8 integrated graphics and 8GB RAM.

After about ten seconds, I received a pop-up for a new Windows update. I updated it and everything worked again. God, I really hate Windows.
