Hi!
My MSI laptop is over six years old and its screen stopped working suddenly. The external HDMI connection still functions, so it’s not a software problem. I replaced the screen and cable but the issue persisted. When using the new display, only a very faint image appears, suggesting the backlight may be faulty. I checked the eDP connector on the motherboard and found a damaged capacitor nearby, which likely explains the problem. I’m wondering if there’s a way to confirm the exact cause and whether it can be fixed.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
I purchased a replacement screen and cable in hopes of resolving the issue, but it didn’t work.
Did you purchase a similar replacement part?
How can I confirm what’s causing the problem here? Is there a way to fix it?
You should use a multimeter to check for shorts. You’ll also need the motherboard schematics to identify the SMD component or at least a donor board to replace the faulty part. This process may involve desoldering and re-soldering the SMD.
If you don’t have the necessary tools or expertise, your next best option is to take it to a local laptop repair shop for a professional inspection.

Thank you for your response!
I attempted to purchase similar components as much as possible since they're no longer produced. This means it's not from the official reseller but should still be comparable.
When testing resistance, I receive a reading, but without knowing the expected value it's hard to confirm if it's correct.
Regarding replacing the SMD component, I’m unsure where to find the motherboard schematics—it’s not something you usually discover by searching online.
I also doubt I could solder it manually, as the part appears extremely small and precise work might be challenging.
