Laptop performance is not meeting expectations.
Laptop performance is not meeting expectations.
When playing games, my laptop performs significantly worse than other laptops with similar features. I own an Acer Aspire 3 1315-41 equipped with a Ryzen 3 2200U and Vega 3. I've been looking for games that allow some adjustments so I can run more demanding titles. I found a video titled "Gaming on AMD Ryzen 2200U Vega 3" and noticed it can handle certain games at around 30 frames per second. After checking the specifications, I confirmed my setup matches theirs, even with a reduced TDP of 25W. However, when I run the same games—like CS:GO—I only achieve 40 to 50 FPS, with noticeable stuttering. Another issue is that during testing with MSI AB, my CPU usage hits 100%, while my GPU usage stays low at 20% to 30%. In Valorant, I see a balance: the CPU and GPU usage are average below 80%, but the GPU usage spikes up to 100% during RE 2 Remastered. My HWINFO and the video's HWINFO both show the same laptop model. Could there be a reason for this performance gap? Is there a solution to improve it? Thanks!
None of the details in the spoiler section are visible, making it difficult to determine your specifications. It would be helpful to verify the BIOS version you have and the Windows 10 version you're using.
Initially, please know this might not display the images properly; the issue should be resolved shortly. If it persists, here is an IMGUR link with all the necessary pictures. My Windows version is 20H2, matching yours. I haven’t attempted to reinstall my GPU drivers yet, but I’ll try after this. For the drivers, AMD provides the most recent one for my specific APU Processor on their site, so it should function once I remove the existing GPU drivers. Regarding the BIOS version, it’s currently V1.18, and here’s an image from Acer Care Center Apps. I’m hoping this gives you a clearer update on how to fix it. I’ll definitely try reinstalling my GPU drivers using DDU. Thanks for your assistance!
An update to the situation
I still can't figured it out. I've reinstalling my GPU Driver into a new updated one, but for some reason it's gotten much worse now. Whenever i'm playing games, MSI AB shows that my CPU just straight up capped at 100% and still low GPU Usage, making the game's FPS low, and also made whenever i'm moving my mouse, it's not responsive and very choppy. This is a big problem considering i'm playing Valorant and makes it very unplayable.
Reinstalling a fresh Windows is the last thing i've want to do since some of my important files are still present with some ongoing project, and i don't want to backup my important data yet because of that. Though if there's really no solution then perhaps i will reinstall my Windows.
Hopefully anyone can help me with this issue, this problem has been bugging me since 4 months ago.
I notice numerous complaints regarding gaming laptops not functioning optimally.
Typically, performance drops when the device is plugged in.
A frequent reason is thermal throttling.
Laptop coolers are often compact and lightweight, which limits their power output.
They also tend to be less powerful overall.
Using monitoring tools like HWMonitor or HWinfo will show the current, minimum, and maximum CPU temperatures.
For Intel processors, a maximum temperature of 100°C indicates throttling.
The CPU reduces its clock speed and power consumption to safeguard itself until conditions improve.
I’m unsure at what point an APU will throttle.
With a lower multiplier, even at full load your CPU usage might reach 100%.
What steps can be taken?
First, ensure your cooler’s airflow is unobstructed and the fan is operating properly.
It may seem unusual, but adjusting the advanced power settings to a maximum of 90% instead of the default 100% can help.
You might not immediately notice a drop in performance.
