Laptop help please!
Hello, thank you for your time! I’m just starting out on the forums and trying to figure out whether upgrading my laptop is a good idea. I’m not very familiar with computer parts, but I’m working on it. My current setup is:
- MSI Raider:
- Intel 11th gen i9 (11980H)
- Nvidia RTX 3080 16G
- 32g RAM DDR4
- 240Hz QHD (2560x1440) at 2.5ms (no brightness info)
- 1TB SSD
- Alienware (consider upgrading?):
- 12th gen intel i9 (12900H)
- Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti 16G
- 32g RAM DDR5 (5200 MHz)
- QHD (2560x1440) at 2ms, ~400 nits
- 1TB SSD
I travel often, so a laptop suits my needs better than a desktop. The MSI board stopped working after a year, but it was sent back and seems fine now. I understand the newer parts in Alienware are superior, but is it worth the investment? Honestly, I can afford the Alienware and don’t have budget worries, though I’m careful not to spend money for little benefit. I’ve read Alienware is a solid system—please share your thoughts if anyone has any. I play games like WoW, SWTOR, FFXIV, StarCraft 2, Warcraft 3 ReForged.
Appreciate any advice!
Not justified by the upgrade from an i9 11980H to a 12900H and 3080 to 3080ti. Unless your budget isn't a concern, stick with what you have. Performance gains don't justify the cost. You already own a powerful machine.
Nope
I think you wouldn't even see the change
Alienware is too expensive for someone without a laptop, huh :/
For better performance, go for a desktop (it'll be much quicker)
Or save some cash and stick around for the next generation ;P
As the saying goes, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. If your laptop works fine, upgrading isn't necessary just because newer models exist. Also, as the old adage goes, you can enjoy the games you like on more affordable devices.
