Hello, I am searching for a laptop under 700€. I have found many options with 16 gb ram, intel core i5 11th gen or ryan zen 5 5th gen (with iris xe or radeon 7 graphics) that suit my requirements. The problem is they all come with built-in ram. Do you know any laptops that match the specifications mentioned earlier (512 gb ssd and more than 7 hours of battery life) but do not have built-in ram?

I believe you're looking for a 13/14" laptop, since most of those models have soldered RAM.

Even though I bought my previous laptop 8 years ago (8th gen i5), I couldn’t locate a "user serviceable" unit in the sub 15" size. I had to search extensively to find a bigger model that allowed adding RAM and/or storage drives. In that situation, one of the 8GB sticks in this model was already soldered in. What I could do was replace it with another stick. The model I selected was offered as an upgraded version with more space, featuring M.2 and a 2.5" drive, but it was the cheaper option with an HDD. The price reduction due to the "downgrade" made it very appealing, so I purchased another RAM stick and a 2.5 SSD right away. It was a Dell Inspiron. All the XPS units available at that time were sold with the original configuration (soldered).

I must admit, I have no clear understanding of this feature when it comes to some gaming laptops. It might be useful to select a few models and read more detailed reviews to see if they meet your needs.

I own an 8th gen i5 14-inch with upgradeable RAM, though it was quite rare back then and even less so now. I think the latest Inspiron 14 likely supports upgradeable RAM too:

In your price range, it would definitely be at the top of my consideration. I’d choose the AMD model; the Iris Xe version exceeds your budget, and unless the UHD performance met your needs, you wouldn’t have considered Xe or Radeon.

Something I would note regarding two suggestions for the Inspiron series is that there has been a recognized issue over the years where the charging port isn't properly secured and can loosen inside the case if you frequently plug in and unplug or if a cord gets caught. If you need to make changes inside the unit, look for videos on how to fix the hot glue connector. Simply secure it to reduce the chance of it coming loose.

It seems the connection is becoming unstable but remains functional. It's hard to confirm if the jack is properly soldered to the motherboard, which would make repairs simpler if needed.

Sure, I was a bit surprised by the 15-inch size. Let me think about what laptop you'd like—do you want something portable and lightweight?

Yes, there is a tiny connector in the corner of the case on several models. It still functions correctly, but if you remove it, you can't connect it without reattaching it.

Sure, that aligns with what I understand. If it were a soldered jack with a low success rate, I'd be more worried.
