I'm examining this Z790 Hero motherboard and have several queries. I'm trying my best to grasp this complex design while seeking guidance along the way. Brief summary: Setting up a 3D render machine for Octane in Cinema 4D with some gaming needs. No SLI setup required. Expecting around 8-bandwidth with minimal effect on rendering, though gaming performance is uncertain. Prefer avoiding X4 but willing if necessary. Removing the PCIe Ethernet card would help maintain X8 performance. I plan to use a 4090 in the top PCIe lane and another in the bottom non-metal lane. I'd like to avoid the hassle of using both metal lanes, but I'm worried about overheating with only three slots. I also intend to install two M.2 drives through the slots. Am I right in thinking the top 4090 runs at X8 and the bottom one at X4? Would placing the 4090 in the lower lane reduce all slots to X4? If I add a PCIe Ethernet card in the middle slot (metal), would that drop everything to X4? Thanks in advance for your assistance! Manual images attached.

The primary position operates at x16; it lowers to x8 only when the second metal slot is active. This would lower the top GPU to x8, causing it to run at x8 x8 x4

Great to hear! Your setup with an i9 13900k should work well, but double-check the number of lanes for your M.2 drives to ensure compatibility.

The highest tier operates from the CPU tracks while others use the chipset tracks.

You'll be using the non-metal lower slot, which accommodates just one slot card in about 99% of ATX cases.

I'm using a Cooler Master HAF 700 EVO. 99.9% sure it should fit in that right? Will be close for sure though. My main worry now is the wires that connect along the bottom of the motherboard. I'm not 100% whether there will be enough clearance for the GPU
