Warning: Carefully review the details before adding a comment. Please and thank you. This situation is quite unusual. I’m experiencing FPS drops in Skyrim, isn’t it? I’m puzzled about why this is happening. I can run Skyrim at ultra settings on my old laptop from 2010. I have many visual mods installed, but the performance remains consistent without them. The dips occur mainly in cities and random areas. It seems like a software issue rather than a hardware problem—I know my CPU and motherboard aren’t top-tier models. Still, it’s functional. I’m curious if anyone else has faced this and found a solution. How did they resolve it? I’m not a beginner with PCs; I’ve played games on various systems all my life. The problem isn’t related to hardware, so I don’t want suggestions for upgrades. No point in troubleshooting if it’s not a hardware fault. CPU: AMD FX 8350 4.0 GHz | Fans: 3 Corsair AF120 (red LED), 2 Corsair SP120, 2 Enermax UCBS-12P GPU | ASUS STRIX GTX 980 OC 4GB GDDR5 | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 RAM: 8 GB G.SKILL RIPJAWS X DDR3 @ 1600MHz | Cooling: Enermax 240mm AIO liquid | PSU: KINGWIN 850W SSD (60GB) for booting | OTHER: Wireless N card (Wi-Fi), DVD/CD reader/write, HDD: WD 1TB

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Is the 1TB drive actually a WD Green model? Also, are you using integrated graphics instead of your dedicated GPU?

The FX8350 works with graphics cards up to the 280X. You're seeing the GTX 980 limited by bottlenecks, so consider switching to a locked i5, Haswell or Skylake processor.

It's a WD Blue, and yes, I'm using my 980.

A 980 can manage Skyrim even with limitations. My 7870 ran smoothly at higher settings, though some modifications might affect performance.

Also, the hardware seems to be the problem.

On my Core 2 Duo E8500, the GTX 970 experienced identical issues while playing Skyrim.

It's confirmed it's modded and I maintain the same FPS as before. As mentioned in the description, the issue isn't related to my hardware performance.

Skyrim runs quite well on an FX8350 processor. Don’t worry about the CPU specs—it should work fine.

You notice lower frame rates in the modded version of Skyrim compared to the unmodified one. Are there any grass or vegetation-related modifications active? Your performance seems affected.
