13th generation models are confirmed compatible with LGA 1700. Both ASRock and ASUS have already issued BIOS updates for their boards ahead of launch, and I anticipate MSI and Gigabyte will follow shortly. You won’t need to replace the board, even for those chips. The VRM on the B660M-A Pro is exceptionally strong, so you shouldn’t worry about throttling with an i7 or possibly an i9 if your case provides adequate airflow.
You have a 6-core, 6-thread processor. The 9900K isn't a better choice for gaming compared to a 12400F. While it has a bit more threads, it won't justify the price difference on eBay when you're essentially buying a nearly new 9900K. A newer platform offers greater upgrade options, so future upgrades will likely require more CPUs in the used market. The only relevant options for your socket are the I7 8700 or i9 9900.
I own an i9 9900k system. It tends to get hot without a solid motherboard and cooler. My setup includes an AORUS Z390 Ultra and a Noctua NH-D15. The i9 always runs at 5GHz (MCE) and I doubt it would perform well on a B365M DS3H. I previously overclocked it to all-core 5GHz at around 1.27v for about two years. Compared to newer 8-core CPUs, it matched a 2080 Ti but lagged behind a 3080 Ti in certain titles. I believe the 3080 Ti is the ideal choice for balance. Right now I’m sticking with the i9 9900k only for 4K gaming because it drops significantly at 1080p and 1440p, especially when paired with a 5800X or i9 11900K using a 3080 Ti or better. For optimal performance, a better motherboard would be needed, so I think a 12400F or higher would be more suitable.
I'd check the 12400f and higher models instead; the 9900k struggles in lows around 1% with certain games and a 3080 or higher even on 4K. If you already own one, it's fine. Purchasing one in 2022 isn't worth it.
