This seems to be a Windows 10 problem, since the updated system runs on Windows 11 and doesn’t show the same issue. I have my old and new systems connected through a monitor, soundbar, and KVM switch. Recently, while watching a YouTube video, my mouse stopped working. It worked fine when plugged directly into the old system, suggesting the KVM might be involved. After replacing the worn-out mouse, the keyboard stopped responding too. I’m wondering if starting a game on the old system would trigger this problem again. The USB 3.0 expansion card is connected via KVM, but I’m not sure how exactly it’s affecting things.

It could involve several factors. I’m unsure if it’s connected but recall Windows 11 tends to limit power through USB ports (your KVM draws from one). You might want to try using cables from both the old and new systems to see the difference. If the old system still has issues, the KVM is likely the issue. Both keyboard and mouse wired work better; wireless devices often fail with KVMs. Let me know if this helps.

Use a USB 2.0 port for compatibility. Also, get the user manual for your KVM model—it usually includes setup steps and details about hardware constraints. Even if the manual mentions USB 3.0, USB 2.0 might work better in practice. KVM devices often have strict requirements for input ports.
