Keyboard shortcuts for Windows
First, I’m not entirely sure if this post is permitted. If it isn’t, I understand it might be removed by an admin. After carefully updating each part of my computer and completing the setup, I realized my Windows key is no longer valid. I was just learning that this could occur during a full rebuild like this—my assumption was it would persist on the hard drive somehow. My post is asking if anyone knows how to reactivate it myself or if there’s another key I can use.
In advance, I should have mentioned I have another question: Many keys found online (free or for sale) claim you need to connect to their network. This seems like I’m entering something I don’t want to do, but I’m not sure what it means.
It was almost there. Your update stayed stable until now. Swapping the motherboard might turn off Windows temporarily. The usual fix is linking your Windows product key with a Microsoft account, which should restore normal operation after logging in on the new board.
When you need to link to a server for activation, those keys are considered risky for piracy, and further questions will be blocked. Grey market keys can be acceptable or still involve piracy depending on the situation. These usually fall under $50, but it's unclear exactly how the seller obtained them. We don't monitor recommendations from sellers. Direct marketplace ad links aren't permitted.
Personal view: I avoid grey market vendors. Creators deserve full payment, but your own ethics should guide you. Remember, all grey market items are OEMs—meaning you're responsible for whether the key functions. Check the support duration from both the marketplace and seller. If the key fails, reach out to the relevant parties.
