I'm starting Skyrim again after what feels like ages. I'm expecting it to feel completely different from when I last played. Remembering the old Bethesda titles, they seem unplayable now—anyone have mods they think are really important? From a gameplay perspective, I'm curious about the best ENBs and other visual upgrades. Maybe I'll sort the Nexus by popularity, but there could be some hidden gems. Or perhaps I'm just not trying hard enough. Thanks ahead!
I have a lot of money in Skyrim, but I can't recall it right now. One thing that helps is the enhanced lighting mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27043/. I'll share more updates when I'm back home.
uncertain about the extent of your Skyrim modifications, yet you're running 67 active plugins and 57 active mods.
I highly recommend SkyUI, RaceMenu (and SKSE), along with unofficial patches. While I use many additional mods, these are the essential ones I suggest to nearly everyone. For graphics enhancements, the Static Mesh Improvement Mod is likely the most crucial and fundamental tool I employ before adding texture mods or ENB for further refinement.
Essentials for me: SKSE SkyUI Better Dialogue Controls, Better Messagebox Controls, ENBoost, ImmersiveHUD, RaceMenu, Alternate Start. Running another life is not just about skipping the vanilla intro—it's because many mods break the intro scripting, messing up the physics. Some features I definitely don’t want to skip, though others are essential for any game mode. I’ll add more later if I remember.
I mostly adhered to the RealVision ENB mod list for 'essential' items and several optional ones. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30936/? It really took time to get everything working properly, particularly because the extra features weren't installed in a specific sequence, and I retained some previous mods before switching to RealVision that I still liked. You'll need to lower your settings to make it playable. My 780 with the HD texture pack and vanilla Skyrim maintained at least 60fps on ultra settings. With about 100 mods active, I’m usually stuck at medium, and most cities drop to around 30fps; but 60fps in dungeons works well. ENB gives a smoother experience than Ultra on vanilla, so it’s fine for me. I’m excited to upgrade to a 1070/80 and increase the settings further.
Dual Hand Combo Hotkeys for quick weapon/spell switching. CBBE/UNP works best; vanilla versions aren’t great. ENB boosts FPS. Unofficial patches like the Skyrim and DLC ones add extra features. SKSE and SkyUI enhance the experience. Roadsigns HD included.
