I don't agree. The price-to-performance ratio of the 3600 makes it a better option. You could upgrade RAM for a little extra cost while saving money. It's likely you'll still want to undervolt, so overclocking might be the best choice. I can achieve 4.4ghz across all cores in games on my 3600 without an X.

In this scenario, a CPU upgrade seems like the better option overall. I’m experiencing problems mainly in Assassins Creed titles, especially Origins, but I suspect Odyssey will face similar or even greater CPU constraints. It’s odd how my performance drops in busy urban areas where I see 120 FPS, yet changing graphical settings doesn’t help. That’s why I’m wondering if upgrading the CPU first would be more effective.

In this scenario, a CPU upgrade seems like the better option overall. To identify the issue, check CPU and GPU usage. It might also stem from slow data transfer from storage to the CPU. Is the game running on one of your SSDs? The problem isn’t likely with the GPU. It feels like my wife’s computer is getting an upgrade today—it stutters when loading new textures, which points to a CPU limitation. Have you considered overclocking your RAM?

I have 2 SSDS and I run all my demanding and *main* games off of them . I've tried OC'ing my RAM from 2400MHZ to 2666MHZ without touching timings and volts and it's stalbe for only a handful of games and make others crash. I am sure that if I adjust the timings using RAM Calculator I could squeeze 2666MHZ but I'm positive that I couldn't go further from that. I also think it's kinda absurd that I'm CPU limited on a very capable gaming CPU of 2017 on a game that launched the same year. What I mean by that is what kind of CPU should I have to play this game or any other poorly optimised game with respectable , stable *60* fps ? Thanks for your answer though !

It was interesting since I also received a 5 3600 and managed to get it to 4.3 at 1.25v. Be mindful of the voltage though—I understand you weren’t looking for opinions, but some suggest 1.3 isn’t completely safe over time.

If I enable auto, I see around 1.38V underload, 4.1ghz across all cores, averaging 86W with a peak of 90W, based on the monitoring tools. My 4.3 all-core setup runs cooler and uses less voltage than the default. Unless higher stress triggers something unknown in the chip, it shouldn't be an issue. If I notice any degradation, that's fine. I've just begun testing 4.4, so results will clarify soon. Thanks for the warning!

Yes, yet some are noting the difference between quick spikes in voltage and maintaining a steady level over extended periods due to the tiny nanoscale environment. And np!
