Hello everyone! This is my debut on the forum, so greetings to all (sorry about any mistakes—typos are inevitable). I’m writing this because I’m planning to upgrade my PC completely next month. This time I went for the maximum budget and picked the Ryzen 9 7950X3D as the main processor. I understand it might be a bit too powerful, but I’m okay with that.
For long-term use, I’m going with an X670E MOBO mainly because of its PCIe 5.0 support. After checking prices in central Europe, I found ASUS boards to be reasonably priced compared to MSI. Gigabyte isn’t an option for me, though I might try to persuade myself to buy an ASRock model. Still, I’m not very confident about their products right now.
I should know about the recent problems with Ryzen CPUs and ASUS MOBOs. While BIOS updates are available, I can’t update it safely without physically installing the CPU and booting up. That’s why I’m curious: can a CPU be damaged instantly on startup? Is there a completely safe way to update the BIOS without risking my CPU or motherboard?
I’m still deciding which motherboard to use—maybe MSI, but it would cost more than ASUS options. Still, I’d rather spend a bit more than risk damaging my new CPU with something powerful and powerful. This post might sound a bit cautious, but I really want to be sure before making any choices. Thanks for your help!

Intel's 14th generation is expected soon in October. While many prefer to wait before purchasing a PC, it remains important to note. It appears the 14th gen will mainly update the i7 core count compared to the 13th. Regarding your current configurations: my personal take is worth mentioning—new Ryzen sockets are still unreliable, often causing delays for AMD compared to Intel. If you're planning long-term use, this could push you toward Intel's 14th gen (assuming a smooth launch). This ties into the bigger problem you referenced earlier. BIOS updates have improved, but EXPO still has unresolved issues. I’m unlikely to see a CPU failure during the BIOS update process, especially if you get a board that supports flashing without the CPU.
Purchase a Gigabyte board, they perform better with AM5, and avoid burning CPUs—don’t know why you’d prefer them, since their support is lacking, though other brands are decent too...
