Hey everyone. I was gaming Valorant last night and suddenly heard a loud pop, then my PC power went out. I thought it was the PSU, so I took it apart because it’s an older Antec HCG 750w (red/black). When I checked, the AC/DC converter inside the top of the TNY279PN was damaged. The part was just floating around inside the PSU. Could there be another reason for this failure? Any suggestions on what else to inspect would be great. Thanks!

Antec offers various HCG units, with some being of higher quality than others. Could you tell me the exact model you own and when you last bought it?

Typically, an AC/DC converter malfunction occurs when the load exceeds its capacity or a MOSFET fails. Based on my assumption (which is just a guess), since there was no passive MOV to handle over-voltage protection, the units likely failed.
