Hello everyone, I’m new here and I was hoping someone could help with two questions and ease my worries. 😉
Yesterday I purchased the following components:
i5-6600k
2x8GB Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2666 MHz
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
Gigabyte GTX 1070
Noctua NH-U14S
PSU I’m still using my nearly 5-year-old Seasonic X-660 since it’s just that great.
I’m completely new to overclocking but have read many guides and stayed well-prepared before trying anything.
I managed to achieve a stable OC at 4.4Ghz by manually setting the voltage to 1.255 (since 1.250 would cause a single core to fail in Prime95).
The problem I faced was that overclocking would disable power-saving features, forcing the CPU to always draw high voltage and maintain maximum frequency.
After experimenting, I resolved it by adjusting the vcore from manual to an offset of -0.005.
Everything is stable; I tested it in Prime95 for several hours.
My questions are:
1. What was the highest temperature my CPU reached in Prime95? It was 70°C, and the motherboard reported 68°C under full load. Are those acceptable readings?
2. With vcore set to -0.005, my CPU runs at 800MHz and the voltage drops to around 0.800 when idle, but while monitoring in CPU-Z, the voltage and frequency fluctuate when I perform simple tasks like opening a browser. Could these fluctuations cause any problems? I haven’t tested this with default settings either.

70C works well with an i5 6600K
It's typical for core clocks and Vcore to fluctuate slightly when the CPU workload changes constantly. This isn't an issue and shouldn't cause any harm.
Bonus point: It's acceptable to enable turbo frequency. There are no significant advantages or disadvantages compared to turning it off.
Applying an offset voltage is also okay.
