Just trying to figure this out, please!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate you considering help during this frustrating phase. I bought this used PC at a pawn shop for a very low price, thinking it was just being discarded. The owner and I had been friends for years, so I picked it up without hesitation. It originally came with a 300-watt PSU, no graphics card, and an 8GB RAM stick—probably from HP or something similar. After installing the graphics card I bought later, the system started showing odd graphical issues, driver problems, occasional crashes, and sometimes the whole thing would freeze. Since replacing the PSU, I’ve tried several fixes: reinstalling drivers, using AMD tools, updating Windows, cleaning the RAM, and even adjusting voltage and RAM settings. I’ve also wiped the PC and reinstalled the OS multiple times through the reset option. The CPU is an AMD FX 4300, the GPU is an XFX RX 580 with 8GB DDR5 memory, and the motherboard is a brand-new Jonsbo CR-1400 with a new cooler. The RAM was a brand-new GA-78LMT USB 3.0 stick. I’m still trying to figure out what originally came on it and want to capture some screenshots or stress test data if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hopefully you got a good deal under $50 for the entire setup excluding the GPU and power supply. The processor is quite outdated and runs slowly, and the motherboard is old with no upgrade options to a better CPU. Regarding the problem, the only idea that comes to mind is that the GPU is failing badly. Consider swapping it out or returning it to get a replacement.
i have a 5500 xt already en route, just wasn't sure if it was meant for the PCI slot...yeah, i was planning on getting it set up but ended up picking this because i thought maybe spending 100-200 would help get it working. at least play some games and save the rest of the time to build a proper machine. i won't cut corners on the motherboard or CPU when i do that—this is turning out to be more than i expected.
Try replacing the CMOS battery with a CR2032. Check the buzzer patterns—typically short and long beeps to confirm proper function.
He likely refers to a failure alert sound, similar to this one. I wish my motherboard didn’t produce this noise.
If it’s a brief beep, the RAM is likely faulty. This could mean the RAM itself is defective, the RAM slot isn’t properly seated, or the memory controller is malfunctioning. You’ve already swapped in the RAM. Make sure your cooler isn’t too tight—excessive pressure can lead to unexpected problems with CPUs. This tends to happen more often with LGA systems, though I’ve experienced “bad RAM” after over-tightening a cooler on a newer AMD processor as well. If it’s a prolonged beep, the system has logged the event but you don’t have a video output to confirm it.
I checked the information and it mentions that the sound happens during startup, saying "all clear/GtG." I ran many tests and haven’t encountered any problems except for visual issues. The picture you added seems to show something unusual—look at his head area. I notice several of those appearing randomly, even while typing. There are some spots showing up unexpectedly here, which is new. My afterburner stats are on the right side; do you know if it might help zoom in to see what’s happening?
