Just got a new internet plan at 1 gig and running into problems.
Hello, I recently moved from 400 mbps to i gig and am experiencing slower WiFi speeds compared to before. I've tested three different routers, had my ISP send technicians, but they couldn't help. I purchased an Asus ZenWiFi mesh, which performs even worse than the ISP's equipment. If anyone has suggestions for a better router or settings to improve speed, I'd appreciate it. I've been working on this for two days.
Determine if the issue lies with Wi-Fi or the internet connection by connecting directly to the router or modem using an Ethernet cable and inspecting it.
I connect directly to the router and get speeds over 900 Mbps. My Wi-Fi connection remains stable at around 200-240 Mbps. I’ve tried several other devices as well.
WiFi performance depends on several elements. The card you use, the distance from your router, and physical obstacles all play a role. In reality, you might achieve 10 Gigabit speeds but only manage around 200 Mbps. Anything like walls or furniture can hinder the connection. For maximum speed, consider using an Ethernet cable instead; otherwise, unless you're extremely close to the router, you won't see significant improvement.
I was just a few inches from the router, but it kept slowing down. I'm getting a new WiFi card for my desktop and laptop. I ran the tests using my laptop.
I can't determine the exact router model from your description. If you provide more details about its features or appearance, I can help identify it better. Also, keep in mind that slower Wi-Fi performance may depend on the router's specifications and network setup.
