Hey everyone! I put together a video using some clips from our 2017 CG Spring LAN event and thought it’d be fun to share. But honestly, let’s make it a bigger gathering! LAN parties aren’t as common these days, but they’re a cool way to connect, showcase your builds, chat about shared passions, and have a blast. It’s also inspiring to see people push their rigs to the next level—like that guy who just got a new cooler for his i7-2600k. Since it’s a legendary overclocker, we did a quick 4.2ghz OC at 1.2v right then and there, used Aida64, and it still holds up well. He should keep going, especially after his cooler upgrade to an H7 quad lumi! Sandy Bridge, by the way! Who still hosts LAN parties? What stories did you have? (Check out the playlist link below!)

We organized one about two years ago in the Informatics building of our university. A few staff members worked as assistants or researchers, giving them access to host such events. I had never attended a LAN party before. We used an X360 with a Kinect (something I hadn’t really tried) and played a game, not sure what it was. We also played Mortal Kombat 9 on the console. Of course, we also had traditional LAN gaming—most of us brought our laptops and played Need for Speed Underground 2. I didn’t do too well. There was a lot of beer, quite a bit. Not much else to say except it was pretty fun. I’d really like to do it again someday.

I haven't organized big LAN parties before. I've hosted smaller gatherings at home with 3 or 4 devices (including consoles). It's still enjoyable. Playing online with voice chat with friends is fun, but nothing matches the excitement of bringing everyone together, preparing food and drinks, and having a great time. I managed console LANs during the Xbox era. The Halo series was our favorite choice for those sessions. We often played versus in Halo 2, then 3-4 player co-op on Halo 3. I believe Dark Souls was our last LAN co-op title (before the PC version came out) where we all played together. For PC, we've tried Diablo 2, Delta Force, Joint Operations, and Quake. My most recent LAN was a three-player PC session where we played ESO and Dead by Daylight. It was still a great experience.

Great replies! Nice to hear. You’ve got some classic vibes going on there. Awesome. Our Spring LAN party is this Saturday, and we’re aiming to set up some streaming too (though honestly, doing that for LAN parties isn’t exactly smooth).

We hosted our spring LAN gathering last Saturday. I attempted to stream it using a multi-PC setup with a single-stream configuration via OBS NDI. There were some audio echo issues—specifically, I didn’t place the stream PC in the same Discord group as everyone else. Since NDI also carries audio, it overlapped with other participants in Discord, causing confusion. We’re still working on the fix. Running our LAN streams is still a learning experience, but I’m excited about the future. Looking forward to the highlight reel we recorded too. Overall, it was a great turnout regardless!

Here’s the edited version. Anyone have more LAN party updates to contribute?

We hosted another LAN party, the Spring 2019 one, last Saturday. It was a great event and the highlight video turned out really well.
