Hello everyone, I’m bringing up a fairly common issue. My friend often reported his game freezing intermittently over the years. I usually ran ping and jitter tests at his place, but everything looked fine there. The hardware metrics showed no problems—no dropped frames or anything. Recently, while playing a few games on his machine, I noticed those freezing spikes only occurred occasionally, about every 20 to 30 seconds, sometimes even longer. After repeatedly testing with jitter checks, I managed to capture one instance, as shown in the attached screenshot. There were no repeaters or interference, just a direct LAN connection via a 1000 Mbit fiber optic cable. For this test, no other devices or appliances were connected. I also tried it on my own rig, which was identical, and got the same result. Now I’m wondering where to start troubleshooting or what I should ask my ISP about. It seems like this might be an external problem, making FPS games nearly impossible except when freezing sporadically.

The device linking the internet is the router. The PC is connected to a specific router via the local network.

It's a FRITZ!box 7590 AX V2. I'm not sure if this model is well-known internationally. I made the update, experimented with various configurations such as prioritization (though no other device is connected), fixed IP and port settings, and restricted bandwidth slightly below the maximum to possibly avoid congestion from Windows pings. I navigated through the basic settings menu looking for options that seemed helpful.

You'd need to make them realize it's partly their responsibility. It might be due to a faulty cable, router or modem issues, or even the ISP. It could also involve being on the wrong game server. There are many factors in between the computer and the server, like network switches.

Which specific game or platform are you referring to? Are you observing similar lag in other programs not related to the game?
