Hey everyone, here’s what I’ve got today: an i5-12600KF (no IGPU), Z690 M.2 DDR4, new cooler, and a 850W power supply from Gigabyte. My current setup looks like this – i5-12600KF, Saphire Nitro+ RX580 SE, 4x8GB 2666 Corsair Vengeance RAM, plus various storage drives. I’m running Windows 11 x64. After installing everything, the system booted straight into Windows without any issues. I tried changing my XMP profile, but it didn’t work. I went through a few troubleshooting steps: shut down, used DEL to enter BIOS, disabled fast startup, restarted a couple of times, even tried CMD and shutdown /fw /r.
Unfortunately, nothing worked. I got into Windows Recovery, but there’s no display output either. I’m pretty sure it’s one of two things: either the GPU’s dual BIOS is misconfigured, or more likely the compatibility support module is turned off. My previous ASUS board (H310) had a problem when I powered it down – it didn’t boot at all – so I reset the CMOS. I don’t have another GPU to test or another CPU, but since it worked fine on Windows after reboot, it probably isn’t a hardware failure. If this is the case, I might need to replace the GPU. Either way, it’s not a major issue right now.
The GP850GM is often reported to malfunction, and several GPUs have been affected (Gamers Nexus). You might try adjusting the vBIOS to test if it resolves the issue. It’s unlikely the problem lies with the 580 unless its vBIOS heavily influences CSM display settings. Clearing CMOS usually restores CSM functionality, though this could vary by board. If the card was previously purchased on eBay, it may have been BIOS altered, possibly requiring CSM. The simplest solution is to switch to a backup BIOS or reprogram the original BIOS onto the card.
It's the GP850M, yet it remains a fixed unit with lights and fans active. I've attempted changing the GPU BIOS still without success. I acquired it from a friend who didn't customize it, and it's been sitting unused for three years. The keyboard and mouse still glow, but the GPU isn't generating any output. I'm pretty sure when I power it up it appears to be stuck on the Windows recovery screen or something similar, yet nothing comes through.
I wouldn’t have assumed it was the GPU either. If you want absolute certainty it’s not a hardware problem, remove the HDD and see if it boots. That would point to a hardware or Windows installation issue. It could cause a black screen due to various reasons like memory clock errors, but I haven’t tested non-IGPU CPUs yet, so I’m unsure what steps to take if it no longer recognizes the GPU.
