I was experimenting with my memory speeds and the computer crashed, so I turned it off. When I tried to power it back on, there was no signal to the monitor. I unplugged the PSU and shorted the CLRTC pin, but that didn't fix it. Then I removed the CMOS and it didn't work either. This is my first build and I'm really worried because most of the components are already installed except the GPU. I have a Ryzen 2700x ASUS Strix B450i motherboard with a 16GB Warhawk RAM at 3200 MHz and an MSI 2060 Super. Please help me.
There are potential dangers when pushing overclock limits too high. I plan to perform a complete disassembly and rebuild on a test enclosure before finalizing the entire setup. You can mount the graphics card slot outwardly. Try launching the system with just one RAM module, then swap them to check for improvement. Keep the project minimal so you can identify what’s failing. If you switch power supplies, it simplifies adjusting jumpers and resetting CMOS. After fixing, reassemble carefully—replacing RAM or the CPU might be necessary depending on voltage settings before the failure.
I didn't wait for the CMOS to drain power, I monitored it during the test.
there is a jumper that sits at the edge of the board towards the bottom of your ram sticks that you can use to clear your cmos, removing the battery might not work if you don't have it out long enough to let some capacitors drain edit: re-reading your post I think you were referring to that rtc ram clear jumper. I still think testing with a single ram stick in the proper slot would be worth trying, and re-trying the jumper again wouldn't hurt. Strangely enough I've had hardware come back to life just with a full tear down and rebuild when all else fails, which includes removing and reseating the processor.
I attempted to re-seat the CPU, trying one stick at a time. I changed memory one at a time, without altering the voltage. I kept the BIOS set to 2 GHz, which maintained 4 GHz consistently for a month. The issue arose when I adjusted the speed to 2133 in BIOS—it remained stable for about a month. Later, I increased it to 3433 and it stayed stable for nearly a week and a half. After some research, I discovered the optimal setting is around 3600. I updated the software to 3600, restarted, and it worked briefly before crashing again. I couldn’t access Windows, but I posted anyway. Then I switched back to 3433 and then to Windows, where the software crashed. Now the site won’t load. Also, if my RAM or slots are faulty, would the RGB lights still indicate something?
It seems the RAM might have been affected by the installation process rather than the slots themselves.
