I need to upgrade from 32GB to 64GB. Since your CPU cooler is limiting the RAM slot, you might want a new pack instead of buying more RAM yourself. The Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 64GB offers 3200MHz CL16 or 3600MHz CL18 options. For gaming, Docker, VMs, and heavy programming workloads, the 3600MHz CL18 is better due to its higher speed. The 3200MHz CL16 is still solid but may bottleneck with intensive tasks.

Both CPUs run at similar speeds, but lower CL latency offers better performance in games. You might also consider boosting the RAM speed if possible—values above 3600Mhz tend to cause issues, making it generally the upper limit.

Stay calm! The Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU cooler is my go-to, and I appreciate it—maybe I’ll switch to the CL16 and tweak the RAM settings.

If the fans are secured with clips and act as the sole barrier for the RAM slots, consider lifting the obstructing fan slightly more if it fits within the case.

3600 CL18 performs slightly better technically, but any real difference is hard to spot. In practice, I’d pick the cheaper option and consider boosting it if needed. As mentioned before, you can always push it to overclocking, though for a workstation it’s usually best to skip that unless you’re willing to risk. Running it with 64GB RAM will take a long time to properly stress test, and keeping the system unstable for hours could cause a crash—especially if you haven’t saved your work after more than four hours, which Murphy’s law warns might happen.
