My PC powers up with fans spinning and the motherboard displaying a bright red CPU indicator, flashing yellow for DRAM, then white for brief boot flashes before shutting down. This sequence happens only once unless I reset the CMOS. I'm currently using BIOS 3.15, which seems problematic for DDR5 6000mhz RAM based on reports from version 3.4 users. I've tried removing and reattaching components, even booting from a single stick, but it didn't work. My main concern is whether I need to replace parts. IMG_2827_compressed.mov

Keep it simple: CPU only, one RAM stick, no GPU, remove SSD.

Additionally, consider using the second CPU with an 8-pin connector—this could potentially affect performance (though probably not significant).

Change the BIOS settings anyway, it’s better to have it run at 5600MT RAM instead of nothing. The symptoms seem to indicate a short somewhere. Try booting the board outside the case, placing it on its box, using the iGPU, and check if it starts up.

RAM is placed in the standard slots A2/B2 on most boards. Fully reset CMOS and test with default JEDEC speed settings, disabling XMP/EXPO. Update the BIOS if feasible, even if 3.4 caused problems—later versions might support DDR5 better. Verify the 8-pin power cables are correctly connected. Consider using a different RAM module or slower sticks to check compatibility. This isn’t always about new hardware; sometimes it’s related to BIOS quirks with newer DDR5 modules.

I took off everything except 1 stick of ram and I reseatted CPU and now my fans are staying on but there's a solid red light which according to my manual is because my cpu is dysfunctional . Also I had to put my cooler back on as my cpu got extremely hot to the touch. Do I need to replace my cpu? Edited September 4, 2025 by Mewx

Is this a brand new build, where were the parts purchased from?

Use Flashback to update the BIOS. You don't need RAM installed to do this, so don't worry if it won't POST at this time. Also it's a known issue with some ASRock B850 boards. Newer BIOS updates resolve the issue. Just look at the change history with each version. Absolutely go up to 3.40 as it contains the latest AMD AGESA code (1.2.0.3f)

Did you operate it without the CPU cooler? How long did you run it? You might have damaged it.

Just a short pause—plus the red light stayed on after my first update, which might have been the issue all along.
