Being someone in the same position, I just tried Foobar, and it's AWESOME. It even works with keyboard shortcuts (something I was worried about), super configurable too. Only thing I needed iTunes for was changing the album artwork of a couple songs. Foobar: Recommended. EDIT: It doesn't work with my Rainmeter theme...

I like my music player to stay straightforward. No need for a browser or extra tools. Just start a playlist or pick a folder and use simple controls. Xion has been my top choice for years. I don’t need or want anything else.

Dude, my PC running iTunes on a 6-year-old system is smooth. Plus, one of the things I appreciate about iTunes is its adaptability. After the 11.0 update, I was furious at Apple for messing up what was almost a great music player, but gradually, through updates, it started regaining some of what it lost. Not saying the current version isn’t great (it definitely isn’t), but it remains an incredibly flexible music player. I know some people complain about syncing, but I won’t defend it there. For a music player, it’s hard to beat.

I can confirm Foobar works well. It offers good performance with a straightforward interface.
